Starting last Friday morning. Went down to feed horses in the morning and found the old stud (34 yearold breeding stallion) down. He couldn't get back on his feet. Vet came out and found that the heart murmur that he's had for the last couple of years had gotten worse. As in one of the valves had quit functioning all together. Long and the short is that we had to put him down, in the stall. Had to dismantle the stall front, I'd planned for this when building(read screws instead of nails), so it only took about an hour. The guy with the backhoe wasn't able to come by until Saturday morning though. Fortunetly, Sharon wasn't around when I had to move body from the barn to the pasture. Things have just sucked since then. Might have something to do with work.

Bummer, man. I always had a soft spot for horses, and hate to hear yours had to be put down. Sounds like he lived a good, long life though.

Breeding to the very last....WHAT A LIFE!!!!!!! I hope I'm that way.....as long as it's not too soon. Sorry for your loss and it has to be a big loss for both your stable and your hearts. Nothing is worse than having to put down a good friend.

Sr. Crewchief, sorry to hear about your loss. It will take some time to get over it, that is for sure. 34 years is a long time. We ahve team mates that aren't even that old! Our sympathies. "Nothing is worse than having to put down a good friend." That is exactly what went through my mind when I found out that I had accidently shot Pepperdog down by the creek at RoR. I'll always regret that friendly fire.
