I will give it another shot.
Today is day 6 without a cigarette.
Jan 19, 2010, approx 9:00 pm I ran out of smokes, and decided not to make a run for another pack. The next morning came around and I decided not to buy another pack. Instead of the smokes I bought the economy pack of gum and a bag of pepermint candy. Made it thur the work day without any problems, but the evening was a little more difficult to deal with, ran out of candy.
The next couple of days got a little easier, bag of candy lasted a couple more days this time but had to buy some more gum.
The next challenge was going to be surviving the weekend. As long as I had something to do on a regular basis (every two hours or so) I was going to be ok. All was going well until late Sunday evening about 8 pm, the sudden urge to have a smoke was so strong I just could not stand it. Hell I was getting a headache becuase of this urge. The candy and gum just was not helping and it was to late in the evening to find something to occupy my mind. Then I decided to go to my stand by help, a couple straight shots of rum.
That did the trick, why, how don't know, but it got me past the problem.
So like I said it was not a new years resolution, but an opprotunity that presented itself.
Today is day 6.

It's a tough goal but it can be done. I was smoking three packs a day when I quit. DON'T give in, especially if you happen to be around a group of smokers. You think it's tough now, wait for a couple of months. When your guard goes down, you think you've won but somehow one of those "sticks" just appears in your mouth and the cycle starts all over again..... The worse time is when having a few beers with friends. Stand strong!!!!! & good luck!
