Please bring a table if you're able. Table/Shooting Bench space will be at a premium.
In addition to our usual "scattered scrap metal" targets, we will be introducing steel gongs. These gongs are not cheap, and as such, they should only be used with proper ammunition... both from a standpoint of protecting the gongs from damage, and also from a safety standpoint as incorrect ammo usage increases the risk of dangerous ricochet.
Please check your ammo. If it attracts a magnet, you cannot use it on the gongs. NO EXCEPTIONS. Feel free to shoot this ammo at the scrap metal targets, but not the gongs.
Even if your ammo is not steel-core... lead-core ammo can attract a magnet if it has a bi-metal jacket. This is common with surplus ammo and/or ComBloc manufactured ammo. My surplus M2 ball ammo (30-06) attracts a magnet, for example... despite the fact that I know for certain it is lead-core.
Please shoot only calibers meant for each target. My gophers and pistol spinner have taken abuse in past years, which is fine... but for this year, please respect all other steel targets by shooting only appropriate ammo... and at appropriate distances. Only rimfire at 22LR targets, only non-magnum pistol at pistol targets. Rifle gongs will be at 100yd minimum. My gophers and pistol spinner are exceptions, since they've already been abused. And again, it's free-for-all on the scrap metal targets.
Please remember eye protection. It will be required while on the line, for both shooters *and spectators*. Since we'll all be vigilant on using proper ammunition, at proper distances, there should be no risk of ricochet... however, there is always a risk of jacket splatter. Not a real danger to anything... except your eyes!
If you have safety flags/chamber flags, please bring them. We will ask that any firearm not in use, and not secured in a closed case or holster have a safety flag to visually indicate empty chamber, at all times. If you do not have a safety flag (and I will assume that most won't), one will be provided for each firearm you plan on having out. Bright color (yellow/etc) preferred.
While I know we enjoy a more relaxed shooting atmosphere at Lou's, and are not accustomed to having so many "rules"... from a safety perspective, these are little things we should have really implemented from the start... as they are pretty much standard protocol anywhere you go. Safety first!
Looking forward to seeing y'all there!
(Lou, please pipe in if I've missed something)
