So BigAl is out mowing the lawn today. His side yard is about 150 ft X 75 ft with no trees. He locates 4 softball sized holes. Dug in at an angle. The grass around the holes tamped down like a crop circle about a foot in every direction around the hole.
Any ideas?

Wasn't me. I make much bigger holes....
I'd have to guess that it is a young Groundhog. I'm guessing that critter based on the size of the holes you describe.
A motion sensor and a .22 will take care of it.

I would have to disagree with Mangler. Groundhogs will usually did under or near some kind of cover or protective area.
I would have to say you might have a skunk problem.
If so I have a way to dispatch said critter(s), along with anyother stray animal problem you may have.
No it does not involve the use of small or large calibur weapons.
one pie pan 2 tablespoons of fly bait 1/2 can of coke
fly bait and coke in the pie pan. make sure the fly bait completely desolves. place pie pan and contents near the holes.
any critter that drinks this mixture will not walk more than 20 or 30 feet from the pan.
Yes it works. I took care of 3 racoons and 3 skunks in 4 days with this stuff.

Finding no more crop circles. The critter has moved on.
